Bodies of missing boaters pulled from Lake Coeur d’Alene

The new park offers views of the lake like never before. The grand plaza next to the lake is another great gathering spot for public events, such as a car show, crafts fair or food-oriented festival. Theres plenty of space to stroll, sit and enjoy the lake, including this overlook that extends out over the water. Theres access to the citys dock here, too. Watch for the addition of a unique piece of art: a 90-foot-long replica of Lake Coeur d’Alene etched into the plaza’s concrete. (Kathy Plonka / The Spokesman-Review)
From staff reports

The bodies of three missing boaters were retrieved from Lake Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday night.

Autopsies were planned Thursday on Justin M. Luhr, Justin T. Honken and Caitlin A. Breeze, who have been missing since a two-boat collision Saturday night near Three Mile Point. The Kootenai County Sheriff Office’s sonar and dive rescue team found and retrieved the bodies with help from the Coeur d’ Alene city Fire Department boat.

Deputies are still investigating how the crash occurred.

Luhr, 34, of Medical Lake, and his passengers, Honken, 21, of Post Falls, and Breeze, 21, of Spokane, were on a 1989 Formula 223LS that was hit by a 2011 Mastercraft X25 motorboat carrying five passengers, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

All five passengers on the Mastercraft were taken to Kootenai Health for non-life-threatening injuries and were released, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Both Luhr and Honken were members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, according to social media sites. Luhr was a steer-wrestling champ at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2015.

Honken grew up in Wyoming, and was a member of the rodeo team at Northwest College in Powell. Like Luhr, he also competed in steer wrestling. His family had moved to Post Falls in 2014.

Breeze was a Gonzaga University student, according to her Facebook page. She attended Lewis and Clark High School.

“Caitlin was a wonderful young lady with a bright future who will be missed by all of the people that knew her,” her family said in a statement released to the media.
