Spokane man dies in Oregon highway crash
A Spokane man died Sunday when the pickup truck he was riding in rolled into the Alsea River outside Waldport, Oregon.
Stanley D. Whittler, 59, died at the scene, the Oregon State Police said. He was a passenger in a 1989 Ford Ranger pickup traveling westbound on Highway 34. The vehicle swerved to avoid a 2001 Saturn sedan pulling from a driveway.
The pickup left the roadway, traveled down a 25-foot embankment and rolled over into the river, investigators said. The driver, Evert L. Redding, 61, of Waldport, received non-life threatening injuries.
