Spokane Indians lose sixth straight after 8-1 loss to Hillsboro

HILLSBORO, Oregon — The Spokane Indians extended their losing streak to six games after a 8-1 loss to Hillsboro on Tuesday at Ron Tonkin field.

The Indians have now lost 11 of their last 12 games.

The Hops scored their first run in the second, when Stephen Smith singled home Alexis Olmeda from second. Hillsboro added two more in third, with RBIs from Josh Anderson and Olmeda.

Jason Morozowski helped the Hops extend their lead further, as he tripled to right field to score Ben DeLuzio. A throwing error from Indians’ right fielder Chad Smith allowed Morozowski to score on the same play.

The Indians continued to hand Hillsboro runs in the seventh. A passed ball from Indians’ catcher Clayton Middleton allowed Olmeda to score from third and Garrett Brummett plunked Luis Veras with the bases loaded to score Justin Chigbogu.

Spokane finished the game with four errors.

The Indians scored their only run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Leody Taveras.

Sal Mendez (5-4) was handed the loss for Spokane, giving up five runs over eight hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Tyler Mark (5-4) picked up the win, pitching six scoreless frames and striking out six.

Olmeda was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the Hops. Morozowski was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored.

Taveras was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
