Boys basketball: Union edges Lewis and Clark at second day of The Fitz

Cameron Cranston scored 26 points and Union edged Lewis and Clark 71-67 on the second day of the Dan Fitzgerald Memorial Basketball Showcase at Lewis and Clark on Saturday.

The Tigers (2-1) battled back from an early deficit to tie the game at intermission and after three quarters but Union held on down the stretch. Cranston was 7 of 7 from the line.

Naje Smith led Lewis and Clark with 22 points, sinking four 3-pointers. Diedrick Pakootas added 11 points and Cameron Underwood had 10.

Nonleague

Gonzaga Prep 61, Davis 37: Kea Vargas went 4 of 5 on 3-point attempts and finished with 16 points to help the Bullpups (2-0) cruise to victory over visiting Davis.

Shaedon Byrd added five assists for G-Prep. Alexzander Delgado led Davis with 15 points.

Shadle Park 71, Wenatchee 53: Tanner Groves scored 15 points and the Highlanders (3-0) defeated visiting Wenatchee.

Andreas Brown and Markeith Brown both added 13 points for Shadle Park. A 17-10 run in the fourth quarter allowed the Highlanders some breathing room.

Darius Carlson led Wenatchee with 13 points.

Pullman 80, Pasco 42: Jared Anderson scored 32 points with eight rebounds and the Greyhounds (2-1) routed visiting Pasco.

Anderson went 14 of 20 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, and had a pair of steals. Jacob Wells added 15 points with seven boards and seven assists, and Jake Cillay grabbed 13 rebounds to go with nine points. Pullman enjoyed a 47-19 rebounding advantage.

Diego Gutierrez led Pasco with 16 points and Trevor Crawford added 11.

Freeman 59, East Valley 53: Dylan Oja scored 20 points and the visiting Scotties (2-0) came out on top of the Knights (1-2) in a close one.

Bryan Maine had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Freeman.

Treyshaun Bracey led the Knights with 13 points while DeVonte Gorman recorded 10 boards.

Post Falls 69, West Valley 39: Jake Pfennigs scored 13 points and the visiting Trojans rolled the Eagles (1-2).

Drake Thompson and Tanner McCliment-Call added 10 points apiece for Post Falls. Ariez Daniels paced West Valley with 10 points.

Omak at Colville: Alberto Cisneros scored 19 points, Devin Lembke added 17 and the Indians (1-1) topped visiting Omak.

Colfax at Lakeside (WA): Tristan Cox scored 17 points, including a key 3-pointer late, and the Eagles (1-1) beat the visiting Bulldogs (1-2).

Fourth-quarter free throw shooting helped Lakeside hold on.

Chewelah 50, Davenport 39: Owen Baldwin scored 13 points to help the Cougars (2-0) overcome a slow start and top the visiting Gorillas (0-2).

Chewelah responded to a five-point first quarter deficit with a 19-4 run in the second.

Izaiah Bowdish led Davenport with 13 points.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 55, Wilbur-Creston 51: Mac Isaak poured in 20 points while adding six assists and seven steals to lead the Warriors (1-1) over the visiting Wildcats (0-1).

Payton Nielsen added 17 points with nine rebounds for the Warriors. Tucker Odeggard paced W-C with 18 points.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 63: St. John-Endicott 48: Camden Smith scored 18 points and the visiting Broncos (1-0) defeated the Eagles (0-2).

It was a close one until the fourth quarter when Lind-Ritzville/Sprague broke away with a 19-6 run.

Adam Blakely led the way for St. John-Endicott with 16 points.

Northport 61, Curlew 58: Aiden Middlesworth led the Mustangs (2-1) with 18 points and 14 rebounds in a victory over the visiting Cougars (0-2).

RJ Plum brought in 10 points for Northport, while Liam Chamberlain led Curlew with 20 points.

Republic 35, Columbia 33: Jasper Summy scored 13 points and the visiting Tigers (1-0) edged the Lions (0-2).

After falling behind by double digits, Columbia was almost carried to a win by freshman Riley McLain, who scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth. A last second buzzer-beater rimmed out.

Oakesdale 50, Troy 30: Kieron Anderson scored 18 points and the visiting Nighthawks (2-1) jumped out to a 23-point halftime lead and cruised past Troy.

Troy’s Isaac Stoner scored 13 points.

Priest River 60, Selkirk 41: Kobe Haggerty provided one third of his team’s offense with 20 points to lead the visiting Spartans (3-0) to a victory over the Rangers (1-1).

Jacob Couch registered a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for Selkirk.

Garfield-Palouse 54, Tekoa-Rosalia 28: Mason Bates scored 17 points with 15 rebounds and the Vikings (1-1) defeated the visiting Timberwolves (1-1).

After having turned the ball over 30 times in their previous game, Garfield-Palouse cut that number down to 10.

Tekoa-Rosalia was led in scoring by Steven Brown with eight points.
