Area roundup: No. 2 Lewis-Clark State routs Whitworth women

Josslyn Blackman led four scorers in double figures with 14 points and nine rebounds to help visiting Lewis-Clark State (14-0) rout Whitworth (3-5) 70-40 on Friday.

Caelyn Orlandi and Brittany Tackett scored 12 points apiece and Lauren Johnson added 10 off the bench. No. 2-ranked Lewis-Clark State went 1 of 14 from beyond the arc in the first half, but used a 23-7 second quarter to wrest control of the game.

The Warriors dominated in the paint, 42-10.

Whitworth was able to close to within 32-22 early in the third quarter on a basket by Callie Harwood, but that’s as close as the Pirates could get as LCSC was able to stretch the margin to 51-29 late in the period.

Whitworth was led by Harwood with nine points. The Pirates went 15 of 51 from the field (29.4 percent) and hit just 3 of 18 3-point attempts. Madison Moffat led the Bucs with nine rebounds and Jessica Thoens dished four assists.

Whitworth is off until Dec. 28 when it starts a three-game California road trip against LaVerne.

CC Spokane 72, Centralia 51: Bri King scored 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting – including three 3-pointers – and the Sasquatch (6-1) topped the Trailblazers (6-3) in the Skagit Valley Crossover in Mt. Vernon, Washington.

Spokane led by two at halftime, 28-26, then used a 25-9 third quarter to take control of the game.

Molly Webster had 13 points, hitting 3 of 7 attempts beyond the arc, for CCS. Katlyn Ward was 5 of 6 for 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds with four assists, while Janessa Heine had 10 points and eight boards as well.

Tianno Hanohano led Centralia with 12 points. Rylee White and Courtney Kemble added 10 apiece for the Blazers.

The Sasquatch face SW Oregon on Saturday at 11 a.m. in its second game of the crossover.

Men’s basketball

CC Spokane 81, Mt. Hood 57: Cesar Sandoval scored 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting with eight rebounds and the Sasquatch (8-2) beat the Saints (5-3) in the Spokane Crossover at SCC.

Levi Taylor added 17 points with eight rebounds for CCS. Orin Potter had 10 boards with eight points. Garrett Hull had nine rebounds and seven steals.

Trent Baker paced Mt. Hood with 13 points.

The Sasquatch host Bellvue in the crossover on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Junior hockey

Aigne McGeady-Bruce scored two second-period goals and Billy Gorn made 28 saves to help the Nelson Leafs (15-14-0-0-2, 32 points, fourth in Murdoch Division) shut out the Spokane Braves (8-24-0-0-1, 17 points, fifth in Murdoch Division) 5-0 in KIJHL play at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

Colum McGauley scored less than two minutes into the game for Nelson Andy Fitzpatrick and Logan Wullum added first-period goals for the Leafs. Jordan Unger had two assists.

The Braves were outshot 51-28.
