Montana rail yard responds to 7,000-gallon fuel spill

Associated Press

MISSOULA – Environmental remediation specialists are cleaning up a diesel fuel spill at a Missoula rail yard.

The Missoulian reported that Montana Rail Link spokesman Jim Lewis says the 7,000-gallon spill was detected Monday morning and was caused by a pipeline component malfunction.

Montana Rail Link officials contacted the Montana Department of Emergency Services, which notified other agencies, including the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

The fuel cleanup was still underway on Thursday. According to Lewis, approximately 2,600 gallons of fuel has been recovered and 1,100 yards of soil removed.

Lewis says the pipeline has been repaired.
