Area boys: Michael Coumont scores 26 to lead Freeman over West Valley

Michael Coumont scored 26 points to help Freeman (7-0) top visiting West Valley (4-4) 72-60 in a nonleague game on Wednesday.

Freeman started quickly with a 22-12 first quarter and built a 40-19 lead at intermission. West Valley made a push with a 27-point third quarter but couldn’t complete a comeback.

Ryan Maine scored 20 points and Rhys McVay added 12 points for Freeman.

West Valley was led by Conner Whitney with 19 points, while Ariez Daniels had 15 and Collin Sather added 13.

Colfax 59, Liberty 54: Danny Robinson scored 21 points to help the Bulldogs (5-2, 4-1) defeat the visiting Lancers (3-4, 3-2) in overtime in a Northeast 2B game.

Liberty led 21-8 after the first quarter, but Colfax chipped away and a 16-9 fourth quarter earned it overtime.

Carson Cloaninger scored 20 points to help Colfax.

Tyler Haas paced Liberty with 21 points and Isaak Ottmar added 11.

Wilbur-Creston 56, Odessa-Harrington 55: Doug Rosman made a 10-foot jumper with 12 seconds left and the Wildcats (3-4) edged the visiting Titans (3-1) in a nonleague matchup.

O-H got a go-ahead free throw by Ryan Moffett with 40 seconds left to go up 55-54 before Rosman hit his difference-maker.

Rosman finished with nine points. Tucker Odegaard scored 18 points and Blaine Bandy added 11 points for W-C. The Wildcats owned a 39-27 rebound advantage with 16 offensive boards leading to 22 second-chance points.

Moffett led O-H with 31 points.

Cheney 51, Deer Park 43: Devin Cook scored 22 points, Cam Hardt added 11 and the visiting Blackhawks (3-3) defeated the Stags (3-4) in a nonleague game.

A 19-7 third quarter put Cheney up 40-22. Deer Park cut into the deficit with 21 points in the fourth but it wasn’t enough.

Deer Park was led by Isaac Berglund and Jake Warren with seven points apiece.

Wellpinit 83, Cusick 43: Cedric Bowen scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and six steals to help the Redskins (5-1) defeat the Panthers (4-5) in the first round of their holiday tournament.

Brandon Flett scored 16 points with 18 rebounds and nine assists and Shaylon Tonasket added 14 for Wellpinit.

Bryce Nomee led Cusick with 13 points.

Wellpinit will take on Inchelium in the tournament final on Thursday, while Cusick matches up with Lakeside (ID) in the consolation.

Inchelium 62, Lakeside (ID) 59: Malichi Segerser scored 17 points, including some late crucial free throws, and Inchelium (4-3) topped Lakeside (ID) (1-5) in the Wellpinit holiday tournament.

Winston Finley had 11 points and McKennon Andrews added 10 for Inchelium. Alex Pakootas led Lakeside with 20 points.

Selkirk 60, Clark Fork 51: Jacob Couch scored 19 points with 15 rebounds to help the Rangers (7-1) defeat the visiting Wampus Cats (0-5) in a nonleague affair.

Austin Robertson added 14 points for Selkirk.

Spencer Jeffres led Clark Fork with 21 points and Kobe Banks added 16.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 64, Waterville 50: Mac Isaak scored 29 points to help the Warriors (6-2) defeat the Shockers (3-5) at Toyota Center in Kennewick.

Payton Nielson added 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for ACH.

Genesis Prep 42, Trevor G. Browne 39: Junior Williams scored nine points to help the Jaguars (3-2) defeat the Bruins (2-7) in the Phoenix Union High School District Holiday Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.
