The price of a white Christmas this year will be treacherous holiday travel.

A winter weather advisory was issued for Eastern Washington and North Idaho as residents prepared to take to the roads. The Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area could see up to six inches of snow over the next two days and the mountains will see even more.

The snow is expected to start Friday morning and continue through Saturday evening. Winds are expected to be low.

“Luckily, we will not be dealing with the gusty winds we saw on Tuesday,” said National Weather Service forecaster Bryce Williams.

Christmas Day, however, will dawn bright and clear with partly sunny skies and a high of 25 degrees. Temperatures could drop as low as 7 degrees Sunday night, but low temperatures should rebound to the 20s Monday night.

“We’re getting another shot of arctic air,” said Williams of Sunday night’s temperatures. “That should be pretty short lived.”
