Council taking freedom

I have owned and operated a small business in the city of Spokane for the past 15 years. I read that Sen. Michael Baumgartner is creating a bill that would prevent local governments from mandating any further burdens like paid sick leave and raising the minimum wage on the local business. I couldn’t agree with him more.

I adamantly oppose the government instructing us on how to conduct our business. It is easy for them to say studies have shown this or that when their paycheck, along with the cost of those studies, comes out of our pocket. Quite frankly, I think you can have a study outcome to match whatever it is you are trying to accomplish. If you put an item like this to a vote and the majority of the voters are employees, it should by simple math guarantee an outcome in their favor.

Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart responded that Baumgartner should run for City Council. That would be just too good to be true. Although the majority of the council members may be well-intentioned, they are systematically taking away our freedoms, creating complacency in our society and destroying America.
