In brief: Hoosiers rally to upset No. 4 Hawkeyes

College Basketball: Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell scored 14 points, Troy Williams added 13 and Indiana rallied to upset No. 4 Iowa 85-78 on Thursday night in Bloomington, Indiana, after blowing a big lead.
Indiana (20-5, 10-2 Big Ten) pulled into a three-way for the conference lead and gave coach Tom Crean his fourth 20-win season at the school.
Jarrod Uthoff led the Hawkeyes (19-5, 10-2) with 24 points, and Mike Gesell had 17. Iowa lost for the first time in four games.
Indiana was cruising in the first half, building a 16-point lead before giving it away.
The Hawkeyes closed to 45-38 at the half and scored the first nine points of the second half to take their first lead since the opening minutes.
Trailing 60-56 with 9:35 left, Indiana regained the lead with 14-2 run and never trailed again.
Stewart to participate in training camp: UConn senior Breanna Stewart is taking a break from her season to participate in a three-day training camp for the U.S. women’s national basketball team. Stewart is the only college athlete among the 16 players competing. She won’t miss any games with UConn.
Westbrook leads, Thunder top Pelicans
NBA: Russell Westbrook just missed a triple-double, and the Thunder beat the Pelicans 121-95 in Oklahoma City, a day after Thunder assistant and former Pelicans head coach Monty Williams’ wife died.
Ingrid Williams was involved in a car crash Tuesday night in Oklahoma City and died Wednesday. A moment of silence was observed for her before the game.
Westbrook had 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.
Kidd-Gilchrist sidelined: Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has torn the labrum in his right shoulder for a second time, possibly ending his season. The team gave no prognosis for his return.
Scoring frenzy lifts Islanders over Kings
NHL: John Tavares had a goal and an assist, Thomas Greiss stopped 28 shots and the New York Islanders scored three times in the first 14 minutes and beat the visiting Los Angeles Kings 5-2. Johnny Boychuk, Casey Cizikas and Anders Lee all scored in the first period and Travis Hamonic added an empty-netter in the third to help the Islanders win their third straight overall.
Umberger, Flyers top Sabres: R.J. Umberger snapped a 50-game scoreless drought and Wayne Simmonds got his 20th goal of the season to help the host Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 to end a three-game skid.
Eaves lifts Stars: Patrick Eaves scored three of Dallas’ four goals in the first period, and the Stars avenged an ugly home loss to the host Chicago Blackhawks with a 4-2 victory.
Eaves’ second career hat trick helped Dallas to its fifth win in six games and moved the Stars within one of the Blackhawks for the most points in the Western Conference.
2017 draft to be held in Chicago: The 2017 NHL draft is coming to the home of the Chicago Blackhawks. It is the Hawks’ first time hosting the draft.
Raiders agree to extension in Oakland
Miscellany: Four weeks after being stymied in their effort to move to Los Angeles, the Raiders agreed to a one-year lease extension to remain at the Oakland Coliseum through the 2016 season – and possibly beyond.
Raiders owner Mark Davis, who had been mulling multiple options to move his team since being passed over by the NFL’s other owners to relocate the Raiders to Southern California, called the deal a “win-win” for both sides.
JRW parents file suit: The parents of 13 members of the Jackie Robinson West baseball team that captivated Chicago with a national championship in 2014, only to be stripped of the title for residency violations, have sued the team’s director, Little League Baseball and the whistleblower who alerted authorities to the boundary issues.
Reavie leads: Chez Reavie opened with an 8-under 63 at Monterey Peninsula to take the lead after one round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, California.
Ex-president sues Penn State: Penn State’s former president Graham Spanier filed a lawsuit that alleges the school violated an agreement it made when he stepped down four years ago and a second defamation claim over a university-commissioned report that was blisteringly critical of his handling of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.
WADA investigates Kenya: Kenya is being investigated for breaching the world anti-doping code and could be declared non- compliant in a matter of weeks. The World Anti-Doping Agency said an independent compliance review committee will now evaluate Kenya and make a recommendation to WADA’s board. It’s also possible that Kenya could instead be given a deadline and a final chance to honor commitments it made to WADA regarding its anti-doping program.
