Associated Press

Kyle Ingram and Gary Chivichyan made two layups in the final 70 seconds to thwart Sacramento State’s comeback bid as Idaho State held on for a 66-64 win on Saturday night in Pocatello.

Sacramento State’s Cody Demps drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left and missed a three-quarter court heave as time expired.

Ethan Telfair led Idaho State (13-11, 8-4 Big Sky) with 19 points, eight assists and three steals. Geno Luzcando had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Wilson grabbed 11 rebounds for the Bengals, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Idaho State had a 58-47 lead with 9:04 left. Jeff Wu nailed a trey to start a 12-2 run and the Hornets closed to 60-59 with 4:13 left but they only got two more points before Demps hit the trey.

Justin Strings had a career-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Sacramento State (10-13, 3-9).

Montana 85, Northern Arizona 67: Martin Breunig scored 29 points on 12-for-14 shooting and became the 30th player in Montana school history to reach 1,000 career points in the Grizzlies’ win over the Lumberjacks in Missoula.

Breunig also had 12 rebounds as Montana (16-8, 11-2) won its third straight and 12th in its last 14 games.

Michael Oguine chipped in 16 points and Brandon Gfeller added 13.

Kris Yanku scored 21 for Northern Arizona (4-20, 2-11) and Mike Green added 15.

Breunig scored 16 points in the first half as Montana built a 37-28 lead at the half. In the second, Oguine made two free throws and layup to make it 49-37. But Ako Kaluna and Yanku each made a pair of free throws and Torry Johnson’s layup with 2:55 to play cut the lead to six.

The Griz responded with a 10-6 run to stretch the lead to 59-49. A Breunig dunk pushed the lead to 66-51.

Weber State 87, Portland State 78: Jeremy Senglin scored 24 points and the Wildcats downed the Vikings in Ogden, Utah.

Senglin was 7 of 14 from the field, helping Weber State (18-7, 10-2) stay a half-game behind conference leader Montana. The Wildcats shot over 57 percent, including 9 of 22 from beyond the arc. Joel Bolomboy scored 19 points with 11 rebounds and Ryan Richardson added 14.

Cameron Forte led Portland State (8-15, 4-8) with 17 points. Calaen Robinson scored 15 points and Donivine Stewart had 12.

Weber State closed the first half with a 17-7 run – including three 3-pointers by Richardson – and led 48-34 at the break.

Portland State got it to two with 3:35 to go. But Weber State made 10 of 12 from the line from that point and the Vikings made just 2 of 7 shots down the stretch.

Montana State 80, Southern Utah 73: Tyler Hall scored 14 points, leading a balanced scoring attack as the Bobcats topped the Thunderbirds in Bozeman.

Montana State led by 14 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half. But after Sarp Gobeloglu’s 3-pointer extended the lead to 64-52 win 3:51 left, the Bobcats missed seven free throws, committed four fouls and had two turnovers over the next two minutes, and Southern Utah cut the deficit to 73-70.

James McGee and Christian Thompson missed 3-point attempts in the final 13 seconds as the Thunderbirds lost their eighth straight contest.

Gobeloglu finished with 13 points, Zach Green and Quinton Everett had 12 apiece and Marcus Colbert 11 with nine assists for Montana State (12-13, 7-6). Hall and Gobeloglu each hit three 3-pointers.
