Candidates elevate debate

“On our worst day… we are 100 times better than any Republican candidate,” proclaimed Sen. Bernie Sanders during the Feb. 4 debate with Hillary Clinton to loud and appreciative applause.

And he is right. The conversation was intelligent, to the point, between two good and decent people unafraid to agree and disagree without rancor. On health care, college tuition and Wall Street, each presented a different approach. That’s what debates are for. But without name-calling, without personal degradation.

Both want the best for America. Both have spent their lives fighting for us and inspiring us. We citizens are not stupid, and we will decide who has the wisdom, compassion, judgment and, yes, experience to lead.

Clinton is my choice because she has worked and fought for us her whole life and unabashedly defends and credits President Obama for his significant achievements. Even now, she is fighting for our neighbors in afflicted Flint, Michigan.

Some talk about doom and gloom in America, but with Sanders and Clinton we know better than that.

Let’s concentrate on who we are and what we can really do for our beautiful country, our children, seniors, veterans and the whole globe.
