Area boys basketball: Coeur d’Alene nips Post Falls at regional

Bryce Bronson hit a shot with 3 seconds left to send Coeur d’Alene past Post Falls 76-74 in a 5A Region I game Friday in Coeur d’Alene.

The Vikings’ Joey Naccarato finished with 23 points and seven rebounds and Brody Lundblad added 20 points, five assists and four steals. Bronson finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Coeur d’Alene (18-4) was able to withstand the Trojans’ late charge. The Vikings led 57-44 after the third quarter, but were outscored 30-19 in the fourth.

Max McCullough scored 23 points and Jacob Pfennigs added three 3-pointers and 18 points for Post Falls (14-8).

Coeur d’Alene will host Lewiston on Tuesday with a state berth on the line. Post Falls will host Lake City Tuesday in a loser-out game.

Lewiston 39, Lake City 35: Braeden Wilson scored 13 points and the Bengals survived the Timberwolves spirited fourth-quarter rally and won in Lewiston.

Kenny Louie-McGee scored 11 for Lake City, which made things interesting with a 20-5 fourth-quarter run.

District 7 1A

Freeman 52, Lakeside 47: Ryan Maine had 16 points and 10 rebounds and the Scotties rallied late to beat the Eagles in the title game at West Valley. Freeman’s Nate Jacobus added 13 points and Dylan Oja made two 3-pointers in the final 2 minutes to help seal the win.

The Scotties used an 18-9 fourth-quarter run to erase a third-quarter deficit. The win gave Freeman the top seed to the subregional tournament.

Cameron Gay scored 13 and Gunner Swannack added 10 for Lakeside, which will play Medical Lake Saturday at West Valley to determine the second and final seed to subregionals.

Medical Lake 51, Newport 45: Jaelon Stith scored 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting and pulled down 12 rebounds to guide the Cardinals past the Grizzlies in a loser-out game at West Valley.

Medical Lake’s Trenten Garza dished out five second-quarter assists to spark a 15-6 run.

Newport’s Ty McDaniel scored 13.

2B subregional

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 68, Asotin 64 (2OT): Wyatt Roettger scored 22 points, Jacob Saetre added 20 as the Broncos outlasted the Panthers at Mead.

Roettger hit a 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime to force double OT.

Asotin’s Coby Blunt led all scorers with 34. The win gave LRS a berth to the subregional tournament. The Broncos will play DeSales Saturday at Mead to determine the third and fourth seeds.

District 7 1B

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 42, Wellpinit 36: Logan Bohnet scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds and the Warriors secured the top seed to the subregional tournament with a win over the Redskins in the title game in Deer Park. Payton Nielson added nine points, including seven in ACH’s 11-5 fourth-quarter run.

Wellpinit’s Jacob Brown and Brandon Flett combined for 21. The Redskins will play Cusick in a loser-out, winner-to-subregionals game Saturday in Deer Park.

Cusick 66, Selkirk 47: Spirit White led four players in double figures with 18 points and added nine rebounds as the Panthers clipped the Rangers in an elimination game in Deer Park. Cusick’s Joe Cutshall added 13 points and Dylan Hendershott and Tyson Shanholtzer each chipped in 10.

Selkirk’s Jacob Couch scored 17 points and Logan Miller had 13.

District 9 1B

Garfield-Palouse 61, Liberty Christian 50: Ian Neibergs scored 22 points and the Vikings secured the top seed to subregionals with a win over the Patriots in the title game at Walla Walla Community College.

Matt Holbrook added 14 points for Garfield-Palouse, which made 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth to seal the victory. Liberty’s Christian’s Chris Kelly scored 19.

The Patriots will play Pomeroy Saturday in Walla Walla to determine the second and final seed to subregionals.

Pomeroy 39, Touchet 35: Jace Gwinn scored 10 points and the Pirates made seven fourth-quarter free throws to hold off the Indians in Walla Walla. Touchet’s Carlos Rincon scored 16.
