Irene Bradrick Reid celebrated her 105th birthday on Thursday.
She was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Havre, Montana. She currently calls Riverview Care Center home and has lived in Eastern Washington for 87 years.
Reid met her husband, Philip, in Spokane, and they were married in 1939. Philip died in 1994.
Reid graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1932. She worked at Deaconess Hospital and did private duty nursing before retiring from Rockwood Clinic. She said her most rewarding life achievement was getting married and raising her five children.
Reid credits her longevity to her religious faith and being a lifelong member of Garland Avenue Alliance Church. She also assisted Hmong refugees in getting medical and dental care, and helped package and send medical supplies overseas to missionary organizations.
Reid’s most memorable moment in history is seeing the impact of technology on the medical field and society in general.
Reid has five children: Mary Lou Reid and James Reid, both of Spokane; Raymond Reid, of Camano Island, Washington; and Marcia Anderson, of Folsom, California; and the late Ruth Ann Dyk. She also has eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
