Associated Press

CLADWELL, Idaho – A southwest Idaho man has been sentenced to 12 years for attacking his brother-in-law with a box cutter.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that 25-year-old Bruce Costa Jr. pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for slitting his relative’s throat with the box cutter in November. The victim survived the attack.

Costa will be eligible for parole after five years are served.

After his arrest, Costa told police he was drunk at the time of the incident and that he did what he thought he needed to do.
