62-year-old Spokane man arrested on child sex charges

A man who works for Sodexo, a company that provides dining services to Gonzaga University, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly arranging to have sex with a 16-year-old girl in exchange for money.

Gary D. Madsen, 62, is facing charges of commercial sex abuse of a minor and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.

Madsen is listed as a retail manager for Sodexo on Gonzaga’s dining services website. The company has a contract with the university and provides its own employees.

A Sodexo representative said via email Thursday that Madsen has been placed on administrative leave.

Madsen responded to an online ad advertising sex, according to court documents. However, the ad was placed by police and Madsen was communicating with police officers when he believed he was texting a 16-year-old girl.

Court documents state that Madsen arranged to meet at a local hotel room for sex. He was arrested when he arrived at the hotel and knocked on the door of the room, according to court documents.

Though he had agreed to pay $100 for sex, Madsen had only $16.36 in his pockets when he was arrested, along with an unopened box of condoms, court documents state.

Madsen reportedly admitted making an agreement to have sex for money, court documents say.
