Prep basketball: CdA boys to play top-ranked Centennial in tournament title game

Bryce Bronson’s basket with five seconds remaining gave Coeur d’Alene a 53-51 victory over Columbia River on Friday and sent the Vikings into the championship game of the Centennial New Year’s Basketball Bash at the College of Idaho in Caldwell.

The Vikings (6-1) milked the clock down from 20 seconds before Brody Lundblad faked a shot and passed to Bronson underneath for the winning basket.

Columbia River turned the ball over before it could get off a final shot.

The Vikings trailed by six at halftime but Lundblad hit three consecutive 3-pointers to open the second half and give the Vikings a lead.

Lundblad finished with 18 points and five assists. Sam Matheson and Bryce Bronson both had 10 points, with Bronson adding seven rebounds. Joey Naccarato had seven rebounds and nine points.

Coeur d’Alene will play top-ranked Centennial for the tournament title on Saturday night at 6:30.

Eastmont 51, Lake City 44: Brandon Porter scored 20 points as the Wildcats held off the Timberwolves (2-7) in a nonleague game in East Wenatchee.

Kenny Louie-McGee and James Carlson scored 13 points each to lead the Timberwolves.

Girls

Lake City 48, Eastmont 25: Nina Carlson scored 10 of her game-high 12 points during the third quarter as the Timberwolves (11-2) cruised to a nonleague win over the Wildcats (4-8) at East Wenatchee.

Keara Simpson and Bridget Rieken combined for 20 rebounds for Lake City. The Timberwolves’ Kate Maryon had six steals and three assists.

Gonzaga Prep 51, Frankston, Australia 41: Molly McDermott and Mia Scelfo netted 13 points each as host Gonzaga Prep defeated Frankston in an exhibition game. Tayler Drynan added nine points for the Bullpups.
