Girls basketball roundup: Jantz, Curtis guide LRS past NWC
Tessa Jantz had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Peyton Curtis added 16 points, four assists and four rebounds as Lind-Ritzville/Sprague pulled away in the fourth and beat Northwest Christian 56-46 in a Northeast 2B League game Tuesday in Ritzville.
The Broncos (7-3, 4-2) led by two at the end of three quarters and then outscored the Crusaders 19-11 in the fourth.
Rachel Bozlee helped keep Northwest Christian (6-5, 4-2) within striking distance with a game-high 25 points.
St. George’s 61, Kettle Falls 33: Hailey Higashi poured in 30 points and added five steals as the Dragons (9-3, 5-0) pulled away late and beat the visiting Bulldogs (3-6, 1-4). St. George’s forced 29 turnovers and sunk 18 of 23 free throws. The Dragons turned a close game into a rout with a 24-4 fourth-quarter run. Makayla Hall led Kettle Falls with 11 points.
Liberty 56, Springdale 42: Christine Denny had 24 points, 15 rebounds, nine steals, six blocks and four assists as the Lancers (6-5, 2-3) beat the visiting Chargers (3-6, 2-5). Liberty trailed by three after the first quarter, but outscored Springdale 22-7 in the second. Nicole Beckman and Elish Smith combined for 32 points for Springdale, which lost the rebounding battle 43-29.
Great Northern
Clarkston 51, West Valley 40: Jaclyn Meyers scored 15 points and the Bantams forced 15 second-half turnovers in a win over the host Eagles (4-6, 1-1). Alea Wohl added 13 for Clarkston, which made 9 of 13 free throws in the final quarter to seal the win. West Valley’s Aaliya Romes scored 13 and Grace Phan added 10.
Northeast A
Chewelah 49, Deer Park 27: Maggie Cobb scored 21 points and Krislyn Koler added 11 as the Cougars (8-2, 5-0) topped the host Stags (1-8, 1-4). Chewelah outscored Deer Park 12-3 in the second quarter to go ahead 23-7 at the half.
Medical Lake 36, Colville 29: Jaxyn Farmen scored nine points and Makayla Geiger and Bradyn Wegner added eight apiece as the Cardinals (2-6, 1-3) topped the host Indians (3-7, 1-3). Colville’s Aleena Wolfrum and Josie Cox scored eight apiece.
Newport 32, Freeman 23: Hadley Stratton had 18 points, 15 rebounds and five steals and the Grizzlies (3-6, 2-3) topped the visiting Scotties (4-6, 2-2). Jenna Russell led Freeman with nine points.
Intermountain
Timberlake 57, Kellogg 21: Jacquelyn Mallet and Shelby Starr scored 11 points apiece and the Tigers (8-0, 2-0) opened the game on a 25-7 run and eased past the Wildcats (3-4, 0-1) at Spirit Lake. Kalli Cates tallied a team-high nine points for Kellogg.
Priest River 40, Bonners Ferry 29: Avery Summers scored 17 points and the Spartans (7-5, 1-1) took advantage of the cold-shooting Badgers (3-5, 0-1) in a win in Bonners Ferry. The Badgers made just one of their first 12 shots and scored two points in the first quarter.
Nonleague
Lewiston 69, Lakeland 18: The Bengals (6-1) opened the game on a 20-3 run and dumped the visiting Hawks (4-8). Lewiston’s Abbey Roy and Jacey Johnson scored 10 points apiece.
Republic 62, Moses Lake Christian 22: Shania Graham had 16 points, 11 rebounds, ten steals and six assists to power the Tigers (10-0) past the visiting Lions. Republic’s Demi Jo Vaughn added 13 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and four assists and Savannah Bowe chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Reardan 58, Columbia 15: Lizzy Williams scored 13 points as the Indians (3-6) jumped ahead 19-2 in the first quarter and eased past the Lions (0-6) in Hunters.
Colton 59, Grangeville 50: Zoe Moser scored 22 points and the Wildcats (9-1) hit enough free throws down the stretch to beat the visiting Bulldogs in their first game since having their 79-game winning streak snapped by Okanogan. Grangeville’s McKenzie Kennedy hit four 3-pointers and scored 13 points.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 69, Pateros 63 (OT): Berlyn Hunt scored 27 points to lead the Warriors (7-1) past the Nannies in Coulee City. ACH’s Gabi Isaak added 16 points and Brenna Oliver chipped in 11, including five in overtime.
Wallace 38, Coeur d’Alene Charter 31: Shelby Majszak scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the Miners pulled away and beat the visiting Panthers. Mae Alexander led Coeur d’Alene Charter with 18 points.
St. John-Endicott 50, Odessa-Harrington 41: Abby Glorfield had 17 points, six rebounds and five steals and the Eagles (6-4) dominated through three quarters before letting up in the fourth in a win over the Titans (1-7) in St. John. Katie DeWulf led three Odessa-Harrington players in double figures with 12 points.
Oakesdale 64, Asotin 34: Lindsey Lindgren had 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Nighthawks (7-3) dumped the visiting Panthers. Logan Reed chipped in 14 points, 12 rebounds and four steals for Oakesdale.
