People: Steely Dan founder Fagen charged with assaulting wife
Steely Dan founder Donald Fagen was charged Tuesday with assaulting his wife at their Manhattan home, according to law enforcement officials and court papers.
The 67-year-old former lead singer allegedly shoved Libby Titus into a marble window frame, knocking her to the ground Monday afternoon at their Upper East Side apartment. The assault caused Titus, 68, to “suffer bruising and swelling to her right arm, as well as substantial pain,” according to the criminal complaint.
The two officials were not authorized to disclose the victim’s name and spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Fagen was charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment.
Fagen launched Steely Dan in 1972 with guitarist Walter Becker. The group went on to sell more than 40 million albums, with such hit singles as “Reelin’ In the Years” and “Deacon Blues.”
Becker and Fagen performed an eight-night residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre in October with a newer iteration of the band.
Titus is a producer, actor and songwriter.
Fagen was released without bail Tuesday after a brief court appearance. He was ordered to stay away from Titus.
Gibson stepping back into spotlight
Mel Gibson is returning to the Hollywood spotlight as a presenter at the Golden Globes.
Show producers announced Tuesday that the embattled star will appear at Sunday’s ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Gibson has kept a low profile for almost a decade, following an explosive drunken-driving arrest and public custody dispute.
Other presenters include Jim Carrey, Amy Adams, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, Jamie Foxx, Kate Hudson, Eddie Redmayne and Channing Tatum. Ricky Gervais is hosting the show, airing live on NBC.
Camille Cosby’s deposition delayed
A federal judge has agreed to postpone the deposition of Bill Cosby’s wife in a Massachusetts lawsuit that accuses the comedian of defaming several women.
Camille Cosby had been scheduled to be deposed Wednesday by lawyers for the women who said Bill Cosby sexually assaulted them decades ago.
Last week, U.S. Magistrate Judge David Hennessey denied a motion by Camille Cosby’s lawyers to throw out the subpoena.
She appealed and on Monday asked Hennessey to delay the deposition until the appeal is heard.
The judge agreed Tuesday to the postponement, saying it would be unfair to deny Camille Cosby her right to appeal.
