4 Corners: Gonzaga

Coming up: Today vs. Portland, 5 p.m., KHQ/Root

Outlook: Gonzaga opens a three-game home stand against the Pilots, who dropped two Bay Area road games while the Zags were pulling out two narrow wins. Gonzaga welcomes a one-game week to rest up and work on itself before zeroing in on Portland. The Pilots are driven by guards Alec Wintering (17.1 points, 5.8 assists) and Bryce Pressley (13.9 points, 45 percent 3-point) and often utilize an undersized lineup. Portland on average makes 10.1 of 26.2 3-point attempts, which will challenge the Zags’ perimeter defense. The Pilots are one of the WCC’s highest scoring outfits (79.5 per game) but rank last in scoring defense (77.1).

McDonald’s nominees: Gonzaga signees Zach Collins and Zach Norvell have been nominated for the McDonald’s All-American team.

Collins, a 7-foot center at Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas, recently had 29 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots as the Gaels lost to Jonesboro (Ga.) in the third-place game of the MaxPreps Holiday Classic. The 6-4 Norvell had 28 points and six boards to help second-ranked Simeon Career Academy (Chicago) defeat Bogan 68-67 Tuesday in overtime.

Gonzaga leaders

Scoring: Kyle Wiltjer, 20.8

Rebounding: Domantas Sabonis, 10.6

Assists: Kyle Dranginis, 3.5
