WSU’s Borislava Hristova grabs another Pac-12 honor

For the second time this season, freshman Borislava Hristova of the Washington State women’s basketball team was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Hristova led the Cougars to a 12-point victory over then-No. 25 USC, leading all scorers with 21 points. The Bulgarian native’s performance broke a 26-year-old WSU freshman record for most 20-point performances in a season. Hristova set the freshman record with her seventh of the year, the most by any freshman in program history.

Hristova nearly led WSU to a second top-25 upset, Sunday, as the Cougars fell to No. 17 UCLA, 73-75. Again, she led all scorers with 19 points, including 11 in the third quarter to pull WSU within one point.

The freshman phenom is shooting .895 (34-of-38) from the free throw line this season and is shooting .474 (128-270) from the floor as a small forward. Hristova is on pace to break WSU’s freshman record in total points, points per game, free throw percentage, and field goals made.

The honor marks the second-career for Hristova and the second honor of the season for the Cougars.

Washington State is back in action next Saturday, Jan. 23, against the Washington Huskies. The Cougars will travel to Alaska Airlines Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff with the Huskies. The Pac-12 Networks will provide coverage.
