Need better camera signs

Your June 26 editorial, “Slow down on streets near parks,” mentions “photo enforced” signs placed where the cameras are mounted at school zones. However these signs do no match the protocol of the Photo Red intersections. There, clearly visible “photo enforced” signs with the stoplight icon appear one block before the camera. I like to know when I might be fined by a camera. It also works as a deterrent to slow down. Then, I can agree with you that the point “is not to make money.”

The city has cameras at Longfellow Elementary School in the southbound lanes and at Finch. If they add Stevens, that would be two cameras in neighboring poor zip codes. Why are the cameras not placed on the south side?

Since 50 percent of drivers are on cell phones, would it not be wise to direct Automated Traffic Solutions to take pictures of drivers as they famously did with Charles Barkley? As it stands now, they stretch the Constitution writing tickets against a license plate, but that has not stopped them. Get with it, city of Spokane (or is it Tempe, Arizona?).
