VANCOUVER, B.C. – Darius Day slugged his first homer of the season and three Spokane pitchers combined on six-hit shutout while striking out 12 in a 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Canadians on Sunday.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak in the final game of the Indians’ road trip. Spokane opens a five-game set against Boise at Avista Stadium tonight at 6:30.
Starter Sal Mendez (1-1) pitched five innings with Kaleb Fontenot and Tyler Ferguson each adding a pair of scoreless innings.
Day and Chad Smith had two hits apiece in the Indians’ nine-hit attack.
The Indians scored a run in each of the first three innings. Smith and Blaine Prescott singled to open the game and one out later Preston Scott walked before Josh Merrigan singled in a run.
Day led off the second with his homer to right field.
In the third, Scott singled with one out and reached third after an error that put Merrigan on first. Xavier Turner grounded into a force at second that scored Scott.
