Idaho seeks comments on grizzly bear hunting rules, would allow hunters to take one grizzly in lifetime

Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho officials are seeking public comments on rules for hunting grizzly bears in the eastern part of the state. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says comments are being accepted through July 27 on rules that would limit Idaho hunters to one grizzly per lifetime. The estimated 700 grizzlies around Yellowstone National Park are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to make a final decision about lifting those protections by March 2017. Before doing that the agency is requiring Idaho, Montana and Wyoming to outline their grizzly hunting seasons. Idaho in May gave its approval to a three-state plan that would stop hunting if grizzlies’ overall numbers drop below 600 and banning hunting of female bears with their young.
