Starbucks executive to serve on Avista’s board

From staff reports

A Starbucks executive and Gonzaga University graduate will serve on Avista Corp.’s board of directors.

Scott H. Maw, 48, is the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Starbucks Coffee Co., a position he has held since 2014. He graduated from Gonzaga with an accounting degree and has also worked in the banking and finance industries, including stints at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Washington Mutual and General Electric Co.

Maw will join Avista’s board on Aug. 1. He will become the 11th member of the Spokane-based utility’s board of directors, which previously had 10 members.

Maw will stand for election to the board at the next annual meeting of shareholders in May, 2017.

Board members who aren’t Avista employees receive an annual retainer of $140,000, of which a minimum of $65,000 is paid in Avista’s common stock, and $1,500 for each board meeting or committee meeting of the board.
