UEFA drops doping case of France, Liverpool defender Sakho

Associated Press

NYON, Switzerland – UEFA says France and Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho can play again after it dropped a doping case against him.

Though now cleared of suspicion, Sakho served a provisional ban which led to him missing selection for the European Championship and sidelined him for the Europa League final.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel dismissed a case it opened after Sakho failed a doping control at a Europa League round of 16 match against Manchester United in March.

UEFA never confirmed details of the possible doping violation.

UEFA says it dismissed the case after the hearing that involved experts from World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratories.
