Montanans oppose land transfers
One of the biggest political land mines this election season could be public lands.
The majority of Montanans identify strongly with the outdoor life, and candidates who don’t could be political fish out of water.
“It’s certainly not a pro-Democrat or pro-Republican message,” said Aaron Weiss, of the Center for Western Priorities. “It’s one that says being for public lands, and for balanced energy development, is what’s successful.”
The left leaning CWP issued a poll last week on Montana’s public land views – the second such poll issued in less than a month. In the CWP poll, Montanans almost unanimously said public lands were essential to their quality of life. Public lands dominate political messaging this election cycle/Tom Lutey, Missoulian. Question: Why don’t Idahoans prize public lands as much as Montanans do?
