Group hiking, paddling trips set in North Idaho

Hiking, paddling and birding in the Panhandle are featured in the 10th annual Summer Adventure Series of group outings led by the Idaho Conservation League.

The 10 excursions kick off on Saturday with a paddling trip from Sam Owen Campground on Lake Pend Oreille to the Pearl Island bird sanctuary. Three other lake kayaking tours are planned plus a fishing and hiking jaunt in the Selkirk Mountains and hikes that range from family-friendly nature walks to a rigorous rock-hopping trek from Harrison to Beehive lakes.

The hosted outings are free, but space is limited and registration is required.

June 24: Paddle to Upper Priest Lake.

July 30: Leave No Trace hike to Harrison Lake.

Aug. 7: Hike and Fish – Trout and Big Fisher lakes.

Aug. 18: Hike to Fisher Peak.

Aug. 20: Kayak Pack River (with Idaho Fish and Game biologist).

Aug. 27: Kayak Clark Fork River Delta (with Idaho Fish and Game biologist).

Sept. 5: Hike Birding Ridge on the Pend Oreille Divide Trail.

Sept. 17: Harrison to Beehive Scramble.

Sept. 25: Wander Sherwood Forest.
