Associated Press

BILLINGS, Mont. – Yellowstone County authorities said a resident found the body of a 12-year-old Lockwood girl who was reported missing after going swimming with friends in an irrigation canal near Huntley.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder told the Billings Gazette the resident found Taeva Hawkins’ body on Thursday.

KULR-TV reported the body was found about 6 miles from where the girl went missing on Saturday. No other details were immediately available.

Taeva was swimming with two other girls near the Huntley Diversion Dam on Saturday evening. She didn’t emerge after going into one of the tunnels that drains into the district canal.

Divers, search dogs and about 100 people had been searching for the girl.
