East Idaho detention center to house Montana youth offenders
ST. ANTHONY, Idaho – Female youth offenders from Montana are now being housed in an eastern Idaho detention center as part of a cross-state contract.
The Post Register reported three girls were transferred to the Five County Detention Center in St. Anthony from Montana on Thursday.
The contract was signed Wednesday.
Montana Department of Corrections Division of Youth Services Administrator Cindy McKenzie said the girls will continue to be adjudicated in Montana, but once court proceedings are complete they will be transferred to the 56-bed facility in Idaho.
McKenzie said it is likely only a few girls will be moved to Idaho as Montana only sees one or two girls a year adjudicated for crimes that require detention.
Montana will pay from $290 to $330 per day per youth for the agreement.
