Legion baseball: Local AA teams post shutout wins in state openers

Shutouts were the name of the game Saturday as two local teams opened the American Legion Baseball State AA tournament with victories.
Marcus Cain threw a three-hit shutout and Mt. Spokane scored twice in the fifth inning to defeat Lake Stevens 2-0 at Burlington.
Mt. Spokane will meet Peninsula at noon Sunday.
Josh Miller threw a four-hit shutout and Gonzaga Prep used a three-run third to defeat Capital 6-0 at Mt. Vernon.
G-Prep will play Bellingham at 4 p.m. Sunday.
State AAA
Cory Wagner threw seven sharp innings and Jared Smith had three hits to lead the Spokane Cannons to a 4-2 win over Bellingham to open the tournament in Selah.
The Cannons will meet the Twin City Titans at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Evan Norden worked eight solid innings and Evan Rice singled and doubled to lead the Spokane North Stars to a 7-0 win over ESC in Selah.
The North Stars will play Pepsi Pak on Sunday.
AJ Block doubled and homered to guide Lakeside Recovery to a 9-1 win over the Spokane Bandits in Yakima.
The Bandits will play the Yakima Beetles at 7 p.m. Sunday.
