Police: Ex-con suspected in Lakewood motel robbery
LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Lakewood police are asking for the public’s help finding a former convict now suspected of trying to rob a man at a motel.
The New Tribune reports that 28-year-old Willie Carter has eluded police for more than a week after police suspect he and two others lured a man into a hotel room, tried to steal his necklace and shot him twice in the back. The victim is expected to survive.
The three suspects are charged with assault, robbery and unlawfully possessing firearms. Willie Joyner and Alexander Sharp have pleaded not guilty to the charges but Carter has not been arrested.
A fugitive team was able to track Carter to a Tacoma home this week, but he escaped out a back window.
