Fresh Sheet: Make nocino – a walnut liqueur – at Quillisascut Farm

Quillisascut Farm is hosting a nocino-making class from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event includes touring the farm, harvesting green walnuts and preparing the traditional Italian liqueur. The farm will supply the recipe, quart jar, walnuts and spices. Participants need to bring their own vodka.

Las Chavelas celebrates 25th anniversary

Las Chavelas is celebrating its 25th anniversary Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

To mark the occasion, the Mexican restaurant will feature drink, lunch and dinner specials as well as live mariachi music from noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Celebrity chefs come to casino

Coeur d’Alene Casino is hosting a Celebrity Farm-to-Fork Series, featuring Antonia Lofaso and Cat Cora.

Tickets are on sale now for two cooking demonstrations at 7 p.m. July 10 and Aug. 14.

Lofaso, who will be here first, has appeared on “Top Chef,” “Cutthroat Kitchen” and “Restaurant Startup.” She owns Black Market Liquor Bar and Scopa Italian Roots in Los Angeles. Gold-level seats with a meet-and-greet are $40 each. Silver and bronze seats are $25 and $15.

Cora, co-host of “Around the World in 80 Plates,” was a longtime regular on “Iron Chef America.” Gold-level seats with a meet-and-greet are $50 each. Silver and bronze seats are $35 and $25. Plus, there’s a hotel package for two with VIP seats and a meet-and-greet for $489.

The series ends Sept. 11 with a Barbecue Rib Cook-Off featuring local celebrity chefs at 7 p.m. Reserved seats are $20. Proceeds go to the charity of the winner’s choice.

All three days, farmers markets begin at 10 a.m. Admission is free. Vendors are still needed.

Bonsai Bistro welcomes new general manager

Eddie Cantu is the new general manager of Bonsai Bistro.

He’s partnering with executive chef Troy Chandler to fine-tune service at the Pan-Asian restaurant.

Cantu previously worked for Hagadone Hospitality as manager at Dockside Restaurant and the Cedars Floating Restaurant. He also served as general manager of C.I. Shenanigan’s in Tacoma and Columbia Tower Club in Seattle as well as a multi-unit manager with El Torito’s Mexican Restaurants.

Rock on

Rock City Grill has closed its River Park Square location after 24 years downtown and 13 years in the mall.

The restaurant plans to reopen mid-July at 57th Avenue and Regal Street on the South Hill. The last day in the mall was June 12.
