Weekend weather: Warm temperatures and lots of sun will last through holiday

This week’s hot temperatures are going to ease off, but remain summer-like through Monday.

Thursday’s highs will still be on the hot side with temperatures reaching the lower 90s across the Spokane area and middle 80s in Coeur d’Alene.

Higher air pressure from the southwest that brought this week’s heat will slowly retreat to the south.

That will create a west-to-east weather pattern and funnel into the region from the Pacific Ocean, helping moderate temperatures.

Highs will drop to the middle and upper 80s on Friday; the middle to lower 80s on Saturday; and the lower to middle 80s on Sunday and Monday.

North Idaho may see highs fall to the upper 70s on Sunday and Monday.

Light southwest winds and plenty of sun are in the forecast, too. A few clouds are possible on Saturday.

Lows should be in the middle to upper 50s.

Mountain temperatures should be comfortable as well. Highs should start out near 80 degrees before dropping to near 70 on Sunday and Monday.

At Lake Roosevelt, highs along the water should stay solidly in the 80s through Monday after a Thursday high near 91 degrees.

Cascade valleys east of the crest could see strong breezes, especially on Thursday.

The summer weather pattern should continue until the middle of next week at least. A threat of showers returns on Wednesday.

One year ago, Spokane reached 105 degrees on June 28 and 102 on June 27.

The average this time of year is 78 for a high and 53 for a low.
