West Valley band, color guard fundraising for New York trip

The West Valley High School Band and Color Guard have been selected, along with 14 other high schools from across the country, to perform at two events in New York City in November, the Veterans Day Parade and the 15th anniversary of 9/11 Patriotic Concert.

To raise money for the trip, the band and color guard are holding two fundraising events.

Students will make apple pies at Yoke’s Fresh Market, 9329 E. Montgomery Ave., from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. Pies cost $10, and all proceeds go to the students.

The band and color guard will also host a picnic and patriotic concert on Monday.

Lunch, which includes a Coney dog, chips, apple pie and water, is $5 and will be served from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Apple pies will also be for sale. The concert begins at noon in Millwood Park.
