Police want to return stolen bikes to owners

One of the stolen bikes recovered from suspect Robert W. Thompson.

Spokane police are hoping to return a collection of stolen bikes and bike parts to their rightful owners.

Police arrested Robert W. Thompson, 29 in Spokane Monday afternoon while he was riding in a car with another man who had a warrant. Officers discovered bicycles in “various stages of disrepair” in the vehicle, the police department said in a news release.

Officers went to Thompson’s home and found more bike parts and other items they believed were stolen. Thompson was arrested on investigation of possession of stolen property.

After returning to his house Wednesday, officers found more stolen items and added four additional stolen property charges, as well as a drug possession charge.

The department posted photos of the recovered items on its Facebook page. Anyone who thinks a bike or other item belongs to them should call Officer Stephanie Kennedy at (509) 370-1583.

To make it easier for police officers to return your bike if it gets stolen, you can register your bike online on the City of Spokane website or at a local COPS Shop.
