Newsmakers: Jose Reyes’ domestic abuse case to be dropped

Motioned Maui prosecutors are moving to dismiss a domestic abuse charge against Colorado Rockies’ Jose Reyes because his wife isn’t cooperating. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kerry Glen said she expects to file documents to drop the case. Reyes’ wife won’t talk to prosecutors or return to Maui, she said.

Signed The Bengals signed LB Karlos Dansby to a one-year deal to hopefully help them get through Vontaze Burfict’s suspension for the first three games next season.

Released Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez has been released by the Baltimore Orioles. He will receive 45 days’ termination pay, $1,254,098. instead of the $5.1 million salary he agreed to in January as part of a non-guaranteed contract that avoided salary arbitration.

Injured Yankees reliever Andrew Miller broke his non-pitching wrist when struck on the right arm by a line drive in the seventh inning of New York’s 2-0 win over the Braves. A CT scan revealed a chip fracture.

Named Lefty Adam Conley has been named Miami’s third starter and will pitch in the Marlins’ game against the Washington Nationals on April 7.

Hired Kyle Smith is the new men’s basketball coach at the University of San Francisco. He replaces Rex Walters, who had coached at San Francisco for eight seasons.

Saint Louis has hired Travis Ford as its new men’s basketball coach, replacing Jim Crews. Ford was fired by Oklahoma State this month after eight seasons.

Departed Kansas forward Brannen Greene is skipping his final year of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft. Greene said he intends to hire an agent, which would preclude him from returning to school. Junior guard Wayne Selden Jr. announced the same plan Tuesday.

Announced Lauren Jackson announced her injury-forced retirement, ending a basketball career which saw her star for the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and lead Australia to four Olympic medals. Jackson said right knee and left Achilles tendon injuries forced her to end a career that began in 1997.

Annika Sorenstam will captain the European Solheim Cup team next year in Des Moines, Iowa. The Ladies European Tour unveiled the selection at the ANA Inspiration a day before the start of the major championship. The matches against the United States are Aug. 18-20, 2017, at Des Moines Golf and Country Club.

Denied A Pennsylvania appeals court says it won’t reconsider a recent decision throwing out some of the most serious criminal charges against three former Penn State administrators – former university president Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and former athletic director Tim Curley – related to their handling of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.

Sidelined Los Angeles Sparks’ Riquna Williams will miss the upcoming season because of a ruptured left Achilles tendon. The team said she was hurt while playing with a club in Abu Dhabi. The injury will require surgery and no timetable has been set for her return.
