Hornsby, Harris plot course for Festival at Sandpoint

Bruce Hornsby, Ben Harper, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Emmylou Harris are among the artists who will be heading for the shores of Lake Pend Oreille this summer for the annual Festival at Sandpoint.

The concert series, now in its 34th year, brings national acts to the Idaho Panhandle for two weekends of music. This year’s festival runs Aug. 4-14, and all performances are at War Memorial Field, 855 Ontario St. Tickets are available through the festival website, www.festivalatsandpoint.com, by phone at locally (208) 265-4554 or toll free (888) 265-4554, or in person at the festival office, 525 Pine St. in Sandpoint.

This year’s lineup follows:

Aug. 4: Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers. Sandpoint’s own Bridges Home will open. 7:30 p.m. $44.95.

Aug. 5: Railroad Earth. The Bellingham bluegrass outfit Rabbit Wilde opens a dance show. 7:30 p.m. $39.95.

Aug. 6: Emmylou Harris headlines, with support from the Bros. Landreth and the Powers. 6 p.m. $54.95.

Aug. 7: Annual family concert, featuring a performance of “Peter and the Wolf” by the Festival Community Orchestra and Sandpoint’s Studio One Dancers. Music begins at 5 p.m., but a variety of children’s activities begin at 2:30 p.m. $6.

Aug. 11: Angelique Kidjo. 7:30 p.m. $39.95.

Aug. 12: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with Luke Bell. 7:30 p.m. $44.95

Aug. 13: Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals headline a second dance show. Sadie Waggoner will open the show, accompanied by her father Michael Waggoner. 6 p.m. $64.95.

Aug. 14: Festival Finale: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” featuring the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gary Sheldon, and guests jazz pianist and composer Vadim Neselovskyi and Sandpoint natives Jason Moody (violin) and Hailey Fuqua (soprano). 7:30 p.m. $39.95 for adults, $10.95 for youth through 18 years.
