A series of paddling clinics for canoes, kayaks and sea kayaks on flatwater and rivers will get underway next week in an annual skills program offered by the Spokane Canoe & Kayak Club.

The first in the series is the Flatwater Canoeing Clinic set for May 14 at Medical Lake.

The clinic for solo and tandem canoeists covers strokes, equipment, safety and rescue, hypothermia, transporting canoes, launching and canoe trim and paddler position.

Cost for the clinic is $55 per person, plus club membership ($25 annual fee), which opens the door to group outings and mentoring from accomplished paddlers.

The Flatwater Clinic is a prerequisite for the Moving Water Canoeing Clinic set for June 11-12.

Other club clinics include:

Participants will need to provide their own basic equipment. Participants must be age 12 or older, with other rules that vary by clinic.
