A memorial scholarship has been established through the North Idaho College Foundation to honor Coeur d’Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore, who was shot and killed in the line of duty a year ago Thursday.

The endowment will provide scholarships for children of Kootenai County law enforcement and fire protection personnel who wish to follow in their parents’ footsteps. Awards will be made to students pursuing degrees in law enforcement, fire sciences or firefighter training.

The Walla Walla Sunrise Rotary Club has donated $4,000 to the new fund. Moore grew up in Walla Walla, where his father retired as a police captain.

In his 14 years with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Moore was a patrol officer, field training officer and school resource officer. He is survived by his wife, Lindy, and two children, Dylon and Gemma.

“Sgt. Moore was a police officer, but more importantly he was a father, a son, a husband, a man who made the ultimate sacrifice serving the community and people that he loved,” said Carmel Abblitt, a Kootenai County deputy prosecuting attorney who helped establish the scholarship.

All donated funds will support the scholarship. To donate, call (208) 769-5978 or go to www.nic.edu/foundation.
