Newsmakers: Pastner adds Reveno, Hardy to Georgia Tech staff

Hired Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner has completed his staff by hiring former University of Portland coach Eric Reveno and former Georgetown assistant Tavaras Hardy as assistants. Reveno and Hardy join former Georgia State assistant Darryl LaBarrie, also a former Georgia Tech player and assistant. The new hires were announced on Thursday.

Signed The Washington Redskins have signed tight end Jordan Reed to a multiyear contract extension. Reed made 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns as Washington’s leading receiver during his breakout season.

Apologized Texas A&M assistant coach Aaron Moorehead has apologized for a series of tweets about loyalty and accountability he posted soon after a highly touted quarterback recruit announced he was breaking a verbal commitment to the Aggies.

Claimed A judge said that insurers in litigation with Penn State claim a boy told football coach Joe Paterno in 1976 that he had been molested by Jerry Sandusky. The order by Philadelphia Judge Gary Glazer also cited reports by unnamed assistant coaches they witnessed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and children, according to Pennlive.com.

Overlooked Barcelona star Neymar and Chelsea midfielder Oscar have been left off Brazil’s squad for the Copa America in the United States next month. Brazil coach Dunga accepted the Catalan club’s request to use Neymar at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August.

Announced U.S. women’s volleyball coach Karch Kiraly will stay on to lead the top-ranked Americans for the next Olympic cycle ahead of the 2020 Games in Tokyo. USA Volleyball announced the contract extension for Kiraly, who won gold medals as a player in beach and indoor volleyball.

Agreed The Kansas City Chiefs and second-round draft pick Chris Jones have agreed to terms on a contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The Chiefs traded away their first-round pick last weekend, so Jones was their first selection with the No. 37 overall pick.

Elected World Cup champions Brandi Chastain and Shannon MacMillan, and MLS Commissioner Don Garber have been elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Chastain, who scored the winning goal in the 1999 World Cup final against China, was selected on the player ballot.
