Snohomish County deputy charged with vehicular assault

EVERETT – Prosecutors have charged a Snohomish County deputy with vehicular assault in connection with a crash in Everett that caused a man to lose his legs.

The Seattle Times reported Deputy John Sadro was driving his patrol car on April 17 when, according to authorities, he ran a stop sign.

The patrol car was hit by a Honda Element that didn’t have a stop sign. The Washington State Patrol said the patrol car then spun and was pushed into a parked pickup, pinning 60-year-old Tom Gillette of Darrington, Washington, against his vehicle.

Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary said the county has been working with Gillette since the crash to remodel his home to accommodate his wheelchair.

Sadro has been with the sheriff’s office since 2006 and is now on desk duty.
