Renfro trial may be set for 2017

A murder trial set to begin in September for the man accused of killing a Coeur d’Alene police officer one year ago likely will be rescheduled for February 2017. Kootenai County prosecutors and the public defender’s office met with a judge Monday morning to discuss the large number of motions both sides have filed in the case and how long it may take to work through them. Instead of beginning the trial Sept. 6, as scheduled, the attorneys indicated they could spend that two-week window arguing motions in the case. First District Judge Lansing Haynes said he would formally hear the motion to postpone the trial at a hearing on June 13. Haynes identified a potential new trial date of Feb. 7, 2017. He asked the prosecutor and defender to jointly submit a proposed time line for him to consider/ SR .
