A new farmers market in downtown Spokane is looking for vendors.

The Riverfront Park Farmers Market is slated to open June 4.

Market hours are planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Sept. 3. And the market is expected to set up near the Looff Carrousel and Garbage Goat.

“This is brand new,” said Sam Song, assistant director of Riverfront Park.

Also, he said, “This is by no means competition” for the Spokane Farmers Market, which runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Wednesdays at 20 W. Fifth Ave. between Division and Browne streets in downtown Spokane.

“This is,” Song said, “a pilot program.”

Vendors at both markets will be different, he said.

Shoppers could stop by both locations.

So, Song said, “The more, the merrier.”

The new market is part of event programming at the Spokane city park.

Vendor Fred Meyer of Mama Torrez Salsas in Spokane is helping to organize it.

For more info or a vendor application, call or email Meyer – who just happens to have the same name as the grocery store – at (509) 993-1230 or fmeyerspokane@msn. com.

“It’s a great opportunity to purchase fresh vegetables and farm-to-table items and just be a showcase for everybody,” Meyer said.
