Garden Expo returns with plants, seminars

The 17th annual Garden Expo returns to Spokane Community College on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the student building and Lair.

The free event will feature guest speakers, 250 vendors and booths by local organizations. Seminars, demonstrations, music and door prizes are part of the fun.

All kinds of plants will be available for sale, including those produced by local growers.

More than 20,000 people attended last year’s event, which is put on annually by The Inland Empire Gardeners, which formed in 1994 and has more than 400 members.

“The fun festival atmosphere of the Expo is the perfect way for the Inland Northwest to kick off the start of our spring planting season,” organizers said in a news release.

Seminars will feature sessions on photography, beneficial insects, edible landscaping, painting, traditional garden remedies, the history of regional agriculture and soil science.

In addition, the event draws a wide selection of arts and crafts.
