Police searching for man connected to attempted carjacking in Coeur d’Alene

Police are looking for a man involved in a possible attempted carjacking in downtown Coeur d’Alene late Friday.

A woman called police around 11:15 p.m. Friday to report being approached after she got into her truck parked on Front Avenue near Sixth Street. She said she had just locked the doors of her truck when a man approached and tried to open her door, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.

The woman told police that when he couldn’t get the door open he tapped on the window with a handgun and demanded that she open the door. She was able to drive away and call police.

The man is described as white, about 6 feet tall with a thin build and a blond goatee. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up. He was seen getting out of a dark-colored passenger car before approaching the woman’s truck.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s identity is asked to call police at (208) 292-5784.
