Forest Service wants to save Oregon’s Depression-era cabins

BEND, Ore. – The U.S. Forest Service is trying to save four Depression-era cabins near an Oregon lake that are at risk of deterioration.

The Bulletin reported that the Bend chapter of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows built 11 cabins and a lodge on the south shore of Paulina Lake during the mid-1930s. Seven of the cabins and the lodge were demolished 50 years later.

The four remaining cabins are in need of major repair. The Forest Service is partnering with the Deschutes Historical Society and asking for the community’s help to save the structures.

The Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization that helps youth, the elderly and the less fortunate. It was founded in England in the 17th century.
