Passenger killed in fatal crash near Cusick identified

From staff reports

The second woman killed in a one-car crash Wednesday night in Pend Oreille County was 30-year-old Mindy T. Carter, the Washington State Patrol said.

Andrea Vistana Heinen, 21, and Carter, both of Usk, died in the crash, which occurred just before 11 p.m. A 3-year-old passenger, Rosella Bowman of Usk, was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, a news release from the Washington State Patrol said.

Heinen was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder south on River Road near Cusick when the car crossed the center line and rolled down an embankment and into the Pend Oreille River. All three occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Heinen died at the scene. Carter was airlifted to Sacred Heart but died at the hospital.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
