GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Gonzaga and Washington State’s women’s Varsity 8 boats won their C/D semifinals on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s C Final at the NCAA Championships on Lake Natoma.
The Bulldogs completed the course in 6 minutes, 29.09 seconds to hold off Yale (6:30.02) after trailing the Ivy Leaguers for the first 1,500 meters. Gonzaga surged in the final 500 meters to win.
WSU finished in 6:29.52 to hold off Duke (6:32.86) in its semifinal.
GU’s Second Varsity 8 placed second in its C/D semifinal to also advance to Sunday’s C Final. The Bulldogs (6:45.69) trailed only Indiana (6:40.92).
WSU’s Second Varsity 8 (6:42.78) placed sixth in its A/B semifinal and moved on to Sunday’s Petite Finals.
The Cougars’ Varsity 4 placed second in its C/D semifinal and moved on to Sunday’s C Final. WSU (7:24.75) trailed only Syracuse (7:20.89).
Gonzaga’s Varsity 4 placed fourth in its C/D semifinal and will compete in the D Final on Sunday.
