Proudly for Sanders

Dana Milbank’s May 19 editorial, “Sanders encouraging recklessness,” criticized a “defiant” Bernie for the unruly behavior of some of his supporters at the recent Nevada Democratic convention. It noted that he “walked away in the middle of the question” when asked about the behavior of his “operatives,” a typical and eminently reasonable Sanders reaction when asked a nonsensical gotcha question of the “When will you stop beating your wife?” ilk. Apparently his subsequent condemnation of convention violence cut no ice.

The DNC and the media have done their best to treat Sen. Sanders’ campaign as an ill-fated joke. His repeated entreaties for fair treatment, disingenuously characterized as virulent attacks on the establishment Democratic Party, have fallen on deaf ears. His consistently congenial behavior notwithstanding, he is inaccurately depicted by journalists like Milbank as a flame-throwing agitator hell-bent on derailing the campaign of the Democrats’ favorite candidate by whatever means necessary.

Win or lose, I am a proud Bernie Sanders supporter. He represents a hopeful American future where big money influence, PACS, appointed super delegates, closed primaries, non-stop gerrymandering and voting rights shenanigans are history. No Bern, No Turn.
